We have been blessed once again to sell a puppy going to a customer who had purchased a puppy from Rancho Rivera previously. In this case, meet Cosmo and Luna.
Cosmo is a son of Angel and Scout from a litter of over a year ago.
Her momma, Alma, loves Cosmo so much, she was first in line to purchase Luna, Cosmo’s sister, of a new litter a year later.
Congratulations, Alma! We will sure miss Luna!

The longer-legged Jack Russell in Ireland, England and Australia are known as the “Parson Russell Terrier.” That same type dog in the United States is known as the “Jack Russell Terrier.”
The Reverend John Russell was a parson from the 19th century. (In the pre-reformation church, a parson was the priest of a parish church not under the control of a larger ecclesiastical or monastic organization, or what’s called an independent parish church.) He had a passion for fox hunting, for which he developed the well-known variation of Fox Terriers. From this variation was developed the Jack Russell Terrier, the smooth and wire Fox Terriers and a fourth breed was also developed from these hunting terriers.
This was the smaller, longer-bodied, shorter-legged dog used almost entirely to hunt rabbits and vermin.
(Vermin are various animal species regarded as nuisances or pests, such as rodents.)
For years, these shorter dogs were referred to as “shorties” or “puddin” or “puds.” Through the work of many hard-working people who loved this smaller breed, the UKC recognized the short-legged dogs as Russell Terriers on January 1, 2001.
Through growing recognition and again of hard work, the AKC has begun to accept the Russell Terriers for recording in their AKC Foundation Stock Service. As of February 9, 2007, the AKC Board of Directors approved the eligibility of Russell Terriers to compete in AKC Companion Events. This was effective January 1, 2008. Because of this eligibility, Russell Terriers can now compete in all venues of obedience, tracking, agility and rally.
We are very excited to announce that all of our dogs are not only UKC registered, but they have all been accepted into the AKC Foundation Stock program as well. Because of our new status with the AKC, we are now registering each litter of puppies with the AKC Foundation Stock Service program, as well as with the UKC. Now you have a choice, if you purchase a puppy with us, whether to show them in UKC event, or to show them in a sporting event through the AKC! Of course, many people who purchase a puppy never plan to show, but it’s nice to know that you always have that option at a later time.
Note that purchase of ANY dog does not guarantee that he will be perfect for conformation events, as that usually cannot be determined until puppies are much older. But even if they don’t qualify for conformation, they can still participate in the sporting events.
By the way, when you purchase a puppy on-line, make sure you ask for your AKC or UKC registration documents even before you receive your puppy. If the application is not available at the time of sale, the seller should provide a signed Bill of Sale and full description of your dog in writing. Details should include:
– Breed of dog
– Date of Birth
– Male or female
– Registered name and number of the dog’s sire and dam
– Name of Breeder
– Date of Sale
– Signature of Seller
YOUR DOG IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REGISTRATION UNTIL THE LITTER IS REGISTERED!!!!
NOTE: You must register your puppy usually within one year of the date the litter is registered. Late registration may sometimes be allowed, but only after a late-fee is charged.

We believe our puppies deserve the best, so all our puppies’ health care is performed by a licensed veterinarian. At the advice of the veterinarian, our puppies get their first set of vaccinations at six weeks of age. Their first immunization includes: DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, coronavirus) Puppies also get their first deworming at six weeks from the veterinarian, which is his standard practice.
Please note that once a puppy is placed in your home, he or she will still need vaccinations at 10 weeks, 14 weeks and 18 weeks. At 18 weeks, they should also get their rabies vaccination. Some states require rabies shots once every three years. Other states require them once a year. Check with your local veterinarian to find out the immunization schedule for your state.
At the time of vaccinations, a full examination is performed on the puppies as well. Although our puppies have NEVER had a health issue to date, we want to ensure YOU, as you make your purchasing decision, that you are getting a precious little HEALTHY puppy.
