OUR RANCH
RANCHO RIVERA RUSSELL TERRIERS did not start out as a business. It started out as a love for Russell Terriers. We have always loved dogs and have grown up around various types of bigger dogs. But back in 2000, we did some research. We wanted a dog that stayed looking like a puppy all of its life. We wanted a dog that stayed small, but yet had personality and character. We searched through Dog Encyclopedias and read books, and we came up with a Russell Terrier. Next, we needed to find a good breeder. We found one in Northern California who was very helpful in teaching us more about Russell Terriers. Through her, we purchased our first dog, Grace.
Grace quickly won our family over. She was small and cute and EXTREMELY CUDDLY!! Thus our new love for the Russell Terrier was born.
Grace was very gentle. Yet, very "cool." We were hooked to this breed of dog for life! She will lay down on your lap if you ask her "up," or just be contented to lay around the house. She loves to chase a stream of water coming out of the hose, fetch for a stick in the lake, or dig for moles she finds on the property. And then just have a relaxing afternoon, basking in the sun. Grace is a sweet girl!!!!!!!!!!!!
From there, we bought Scout. Now Scout comes from champion bloodlines. And although Grace is small and cute, Scout is very muscular and VERY FAST. We have clocked him running 20 miles per hour! Incredible for such a small body to run! He looks like a bullet running!
The decision was made, and we knew that some day we would actually breed these dogs. It took years of planning and learning, but we slowly built our ranch. We take pride in each dog that we have added to our family ever since, because they aren’t just "breeding dogs," they are our pets. They are a part of our family that we enjoy in such a way that we know others will enjoy them as well.

In June of 2006, we moved to five acres in the Hill Country of Texas, where our Russell Terriers can truly enjoy the country life! They climb slanted trees, hunt, chase occasional varmints that come onto the property, they play "fetch," play in water, and truly enjoy the life home-raised Russell Terriers deserve!
